Kanhym Acquires Biltong Den
On 1st October 2009 Kanhym Estates acquired the controlling stake in Global Biltong Den, the franchisor of the Biltong Den retail outlets.
The acquisition included the buy-back of the Gauteng based biltong manufacturing facility; which is to be relocated to Middelburg, alongside the present Kanhym production facility.
Biltong Den has built a reputation for top quality products, having won several awards for their biltong in prior years. The tried and trusted recipes will be retained in the business.
As part of a brand consolidation process all new outlets will carry the new name Kanhym Biltong Deli; to complement the existing Kanhym Fresh Meat Deli brand. Existing Biltong Den outlets will convert to the Kanhym Biltong Deli brand when their franchise contracts are renewed.
From the current base of 17 outlets it is anticipated that a further 10 new outlets will be opened within the next 12 months. The main focus for growth will be in Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
The acquisition will seek to extract the greatest synergies from the combination of Biltong Dens experienced management team and Kanhym’s reputation for excellence.
